Jade Blakey – Associate Director
Growing up in Conroe, Texas, Jade Blakey began her choral experience with Dr. Bob Horton, Erin Norvelle Bodhaine, and Lynn Bull at The Woodlands High School. Her senior year, she was elected choir president and was given the opportunity to arrange and direct a piece with her program’s Chamber Choir. The rest is history! While in high school, she studied voice with Diana Storezbach, and was a founding board member for The Woodlands Chorale, a non-profit civic chorus.
Mrs. Blakey went on to Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis and additional coursework in both music theory and Orff-Schulwerk. She studied voice with Ann Borders and conducting with Dr. Brad Holmes and Dr. Guy Forbes. She presented at conferences both regionally and nationally, and she has been published for her assistance in a research project on a new iPad app involving early childhood music. Mrs. Blakey interned with the Millikin Children’s Choir, which is a Kodály-based K-12 choral program, and tutored for Millikin’s music theory department. Mrs. Blakey, growing up in dance and musical theatre programs, also choreographed for local school choirs.
While in college, Mrs. Blakey became a sister of Alpha Chi Omega, Upsilon chapter, where she helped prepare for the chapter’s Centennial Celebration by creating and leading a choir of collegiate members. She is also very proud member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Nu chapter, an international music fraternity for women. Among her opportunities with Sigma Alpha Iota, she was Vice President of Membership and a Voting Delegate to the national convention in 2012. Nu chapter rewarded her service with the Collegiate Honor Award. She also was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, an honor’s fraternity, for her scholastic achievements.
Among the amazing opportunities Mrs. Blakey has been given, she student-taught in Plano ISD, reigniting her love of Texas choral music. She is so excited to be back in the Houston area, near her big family and away from the Illinois winters! She is married to Adam, a woodwind teacher and performer, and has one child- a cat named Steve! Besides her associate director duties with LAKE Choir, Mrs. Blakey will also be in charge of the music theory department. She is looking forward to challenging her students to their full potential alongside Mr. Dominguez!
