Raul Dominguez – Director
Raul Dominguez began his career in choral music at Klein High School where he consistently earned superior ratings in Solo & Ensemble contests, was a member of the All-State Men’s Choir, first chair to the All-State Mixed Choir, was named the 2008 Byrd Scholar, received the Houston Gilbert & Sullivan Society Scholarship, and was selected as 1 of 8 high school seniors in the greater Houston area as a member of the Houston Grand Opera High School Voice Studio.
He received a full scholarship to Oklahoma City University (OCU) where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. While at OCU, he worked with Canterbury Youth Choruses as their Intern for one year, Young Men’s Chorus Conductor for two years , and Boys & Girls Club Chorus for two years. Mr. Dominguez also conducted a children’s chorus at Chapel Hill United Methodist where he also served as the Assistant Music Director for five years. He even had the rare and wonderful privilege of restarting Delta Zeta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (Men’s Music Fraternity) at OCU.
During his time at the university, he earned a number of accolades including a place on the President’s Honor Roll all nine semesters, the Junior Marshall Award, the Presser Scholar Award, the Hearst Scholar Award, the Phi Mu Alpha Scholastic Award, Who’s Who Among Students, and was received into the Music Honors Fraternity, Pi Kappa Lambda. Most notably, Mr. Dominguez earned First Runner-Up in the United States’ premier Undergraduate Conducting Competition held by the American Choral Directors Association in 2013.
During his summers, Mr. Dominguez keeps busy with a variety of summer programs. In 2009, he served as a Camp Counselor, the Assistant Acting Coach, and the Assistant Chamber Choir Conductor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Summer Camp. In 2010, he took his Young Men’s Chorus to Washington DC where they performed at Walter Reed Hospital and the National Cathedral. In 2011, Mr. Dominguez earned a spot as a Choral Scholar in the Yale Norfolk Chamber Choir and Conducting Program. In 2012, he also participated in Westminster Choir College’s Chamber Choir and Conducting Program where he performed Bach’s Mass in B minor. He traveled to Europe, in 2013, with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra where he played percussion and sang in a variety of historical venues in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria. Recently, Mr. Dominguez conducted a week long choir camp through Canterbury Youth Choruses for intermediate and high school students in Oklahoma City.
Excitement barely describes how Mr. Dominguez feels about the coming year with Clear Lake Choir. His imaginative motivation for success begins with the students of the CLC is augmented through advanced training and performance opportunities with his partner in crime, Mrs. Jade Blakey and the undying support of the CLHS Administrative Staff. He looks forward to a prosperous year at Clear Lake High School; GO FALCONS!
